Oregon's Silver Falls State Park is best known for its Canyon Trail, which leads hikers to 10 different waterfalls, ranging from 27-177 feet tall. Four of the falls here have a surrounding that resembles an amphitheater, allowing the adventurous to get up close to the crashing waters. The rainforest at Silver Falls is temperate, and foliage includes Douglas fir, hemlock, and cedar trees. The forest floor itself is covered with wildflowers and ferns and bird-watching opportunities are abundant in the park. For those who want to spend the night, camping is available at the Old and New Ranch buildings or you can rent a cabin for a more comfy stay.

Nestled in the lower elevation of Oregon's Cascade Mountains lies a temperate rain forest. It is here that the Trail of Ten Falls/Canyon Trail (770k) (Acrobat required to view map) can be found. The Canyon Trail and the falls descend to a forest floor covered with ferns, mosses, and wildflowers. You will also find stands of Douglas fir, hemlock, and cedar. It takes you to 10 majestic waterfalls, ranging from the grand South Falls (177 feet), to the delicate Drake Falls (27 feet). Four of these falls have an amphitheater-like surrounding where you can walk behind the falls and feel the misty, crisp spray.
