Deschutes National Forest is home to the third highest peak in Oregon, as well as a range of elevations from 1,950 feet at Lake Billy Chinook to 10,358 feet on South Sister. The forest boasts more than 150 lakes and 500 miles of streams, as well as caves and other geological formations which spelunkers and other explorers can really enjoy. Visitors are invited to hike, bike and horseback ride along the forest's rivers, lakes, mountains, and trails, and if visiting in the colder months, this is the place to take advantage of the Pacific Coast's premier ski resort for alpine skiing or spend an afternoon riding on a snowmobile. .

The Deschutes National Forest has many campgrounds, and if you prefer more solitude or want to explore the backcountry, most of the Forest is open for dispersed or backcountry camping too. With all of this plus cool evergreen and alpine forests, volcanic attractions, mountain lakes, desert areas, and meadows, Deschutes National Forest is sure to please. Get to the Deschutes National Forest by heading south on State Highway 97.
