Our Museum Expert Says:

The science, technology, and exhibits at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry have changed in the last sixty years, but one thing has remained the same: visitors still will walk away inspired by the splendid world of science showcased at this museum. Since 1944 the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry has been dedicated to improving the understanding of science and technology through the use of exciting and entertaining exhibits and programs.

Five exhibit halls, eight science labs, an Omnimax theater, the northwest's largest planetarium, and yes, even a submarine, all await you at this incredible museum that covers 2 floors over 219,000 square feet of fun and exciting space.

Some activities you can expect to enjoy in the museum's Turbine Hall and Science Playgrounds include touching a tornado, uncovering a dinosaur fossil, experiencing the world of virtual reality, feeling an earthquake and experimenting in one of the labs. If that's not enough, ride the USS Blueback, the last fast-attack diesel submarine built by the US Navy after serving nobly for 31 years.

You will absolutely love the museum's science store. With fantastic toys for kids and adults alike, robotic kits, biology and physics kits, chemistry sets, and everything else imaginable, you are sure to walk away feeling a bit of a scientist.

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry can be found on the east bank of the Willamette River, just south of downtown Portland. From Interstate 5: Exit at I84 (Banfield Fwy.) and make your way left to SE Belmont. Head right on SE 7th followed by another quick right on SE Taylor. Take a left on SE Water and you'll find the museum right in front of you.

Prepare for a blast of excitement at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
