The only major zoo in the Oregon Cascades and Willamette Valley region, Portland's Oregon Zoo is an excellent one. The Cascade Crest Exhibit, for example, has a simulated snow cave and mountain goats, while at the Cascade Stream you'll be able to peek at into the beaver den and watch river otters frolic in a cool mountain stream. That's only the start of what will be an exciting day at the Oregon Zoo for adults and kids of all ages. While walking through the zoo, realize that you'll be in the oldest U.S. zoo west of the Mississippi River, its doors having opened for the first time in 1884.
