Parks and Outdoor Recreation in Portland, Oregon

Portland, Oregon has more park area per resident than any other big city in the United States and those residents sure make use of their parks. Forest Park, within the Portland city limits has 50 miles of hiking trails, part of a 220 mile trail system connecting trails through the various parks and along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. You may not see the elk and bears who call Portland home, but there is abundant wildlife viewing on many of these trails. Forest Park has an extensive mountain biking as well, and there are bike trails along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.


Outdoor Sports and Recreation around Portland and Multnomah Falls

Portland, Oregon makes a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area, including the Columbia Gorge and Mount Hood. Hikes of all level of difficulty, including climbs to the Mt. Hood summit, start at Timberline Lodge.

The Historic Highway paralleling the Columbia River is the starting point for many hikes in the Columbia River Gorge. Some of the popular hikes lead to Multnomah Falls. And, don't forget about Windsurfing the Columbia River Gorge. Its got some of the best wind surfing conditions in the United States.
