Our Beach Bum Says:

Beach-lovers and surfers brace yourselves for Oahu's widest white sand beach, featuring world-renowned waves! About 2 miles long and 200-300 feet wide, Sunset Beach has plenty of wide open space for everyone to enjoy their favorite beach activities. Summer on the beach here means a crystal clear and calm ocean with beautiful white sand your feet will thank you for. The water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. In addition to the amazing sand, perfect for castle building, the kids are sure to love the tide pools, which are great for shell-collecting and for learning about nature. Those looking to enjoy some classic Hawaiian surfing should come in the winter, when Sunset Beach boasts waves between 15 and 20 feet high, making it an ideal spot for international surfing competitions.

Note that the high surf often generates dangerous water conditions, such as rip currents and backwashes sweeping across the foreshore, so always stay alert and aware. Lifeguards are on duty here daily, so be sure to check with them first before venturing into the water.

Naturally, the sunsets at Sunset Beach are the absolute best on Oahu, so plan ahead and enjoy an evening to remember as you watch the sun go down in a blaze of magnificent colors behind Kaena Point. Parking at the beach is available on the side of the street, even when it's crowded, and park facilities include portable restrooms.

When you're through with the beach, head over for a night at one of the many luxury hotels here. First though, consider trying out some of the wonderful local eateries and places of entertainment, to top off your perfect day at the beach.
