Our Beach Bum Says:

Aloha, and welcome to Kaena Point State Park! The Keawa'ula Bay offers visitors a spectacular beach experience. A jagged coastline with views of nearby volcanoes provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic (and usually pretty deserted) day out at the beach.

Surfing and bodysurfing are mostly reserved for experts, but when the waters are calm (mostly in the summer), then the water is pleasant and ready for swimmers of all ages – just don't go too far out because of the high waves, large rocks, and the risk of sharks! There are lifeguards present for your safety. Other activities at Kaena Point State Park include hiking, dolphin watching (usually an early morning activity), and visiting the sea cave, Kaneana, home of Nanue, the shark man. The hike is a family-friendly hike along the volcanic coast. The 2.7 miles (one-way) journey will bring hikers along tidepools, viewing natural stone arches and beautiful views of the beach and the Makua coastline along the way.

Plantlife and animal life are rich at Kaena Point State Park – in the winter you may even spot an Albatross nesting in the area! Fishing is a popular option and you'll see lots of fishing boats offshore.

There is no drinking water available at Kaena Point State Park, so be sure to come prepared with your own. Also, "kaena" means "heat"; it is hot here and you're going to need that water! There are, however restrooms and a payphone available.

Kaena Point State Park is located at the westernmost tip of Oahu. Have fun hiking and swimming in this remote and very beautiful are of Oahu!
