Our Beach Bum Says:

Prepare for the waves of a lifetime at Ehukai Beach Park in Oahu, Hawaii. Besides for being a beautiful beach with some of the best sandbar type surf in the world, Ehukai Beach Park is also home to the famed Banzai Pipeline, a surf reef break.

The Banzai Pipeline, or simply "the Pipe" is located at the shallow part of the Ehukai reef. Gigantic waves crash at this point creating hollow cones of water that lucky (and daring!) surfers attempt to conquer. There are three such reefs at Banzai Pipeline. The Pipe is perhaps the world's most beautiful and deadliest wave and is not for amateurs: Many surfers and photographers have been killed trying to surf the Pipe. When waters are calm, swimming is okay in the area, but if the surf is cranking, then swimmers and surfers must take serious caution.

Banzai Pipeline was named when Bruce Brown, a famous surf cinematographer, yelled "Banzai" during a shoot in 1961. It has since become an extremely popular spot for photo shoots and has become an iconic locale for surfers worldwide.

The Banzai Pipeline at Ehukai Beach Park is located at the North Shore of Haleiwa. It's a great spot for families who want to enjoy the sandy beaches and shady picnic areas and who would rather watch the 25+ foot waves rather than swim in them!
