Off the Beaten Path in Honolulu, Waikiki and Oahu, Hawaii

Things to do / Travel Guide

With so much to see and do in Oahu, there are some places that are commonly overlooked by most tourists.

While it is generally well-known and accessible, Chinatown in Honolulu has so much to offer that it should be explored fully. With restaurants, galleries, clubs, and curio shops, the list of places to explore here goes on and on. Hotel Street, in particular, is worth a visit.

The Aloha Flea Market is a popular local shopping venue featuring hundreds of vendors who hawk all sorts of items. The market is located on the parking lot surrounding Aloha Stadium and is about 30 minutes from Waikiki by car.

You can also visit the Royal Mausoleum, resting place for the Kamehameha and Kalakaua royal families.

On the North Shore, you can visit Waimea Falls Park, a large, beautiful park featuring a 45-foot waterfall. You can even swim in the pool under the falls for a cool, refreshing treat. Plus you can catch cliff diving and hula shows there as well.

Close to Waikiki, you can also check out Manoa Falls. These waterfalls are located behind Waikiki, just beyond the University of Hawaii campus. To get there, you'll need to take a 1½ mile hike along a footpath.
