Our Sports Superfan Says:
It's hard to replace a legend, but Emerald Downs certainly tries its best. Opening in 1996 to replace the longtime Washington legend, Longacres, which by its closing in 1992 had become the longest continually running track on the West Coast, and was the first in the west to offer parimutuel betting. But when the track became old and worn down it was time to close up shop, and Emerald Downs took its place.
Offering racing from April to October, Emerald Downs features a number of un-grades stakes races, as well as a Grade III race passed down from its predecessor – the Longacres Mile. This race has been an annual tradition since 1935.
Located in Auburn, Washington, about 30 miles south of Seattle, Emerald Downs offers the only thoroughbred racing in the state.
