Our Ski Specialist Says:

White Pass is best known as the home of the Mahre brothers. Steve and Phil, known as two of America's greatest skiers, literally grew up at White Pass, as in 1964 their father became the mountain manager. White Pass is the kind of place you can feel safe letting your kids run loose. Its family friendly attitude, and relatively small size, ensures they have a good time, while you ride the slopes. Kick back in Washington's Southern Cascade Mountains with a beautiful view of the nearby Mount Rainier National Park. This small, family-oriented resort is sure to please all its visitors.

White Pass is one of the few small resorts with a high speed detachable quad lift. The "Great White Express" serves as the resort's main lift and reaches the entire mountain's terrain. This terrain is composed of 638 acres of skiable area, divided into 32 trails that are serviced by 6 lifts including the Great White. The terrain is perfectly balanced with quickening steeps, wide open cruisers, and great areas for beginners to pick up their first pair of skis. For those looking for a snowboard adventure, White Pass offers natural quarter-pipes, kickers, drops and chutes that will challenge even the most experienced of boarders.

Due to its relatively isolated location, White Pass is rarely crowded, which gives this relatively small mountain an advantage over its larger rivals. The resort is open daily from 8:45am to 4:00pm. On the nights when night skiing is available (Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays), the hill remains open until 10:00pm.

The mountain is located in one of the most scenic locations in the area of Mount Rainier National Park. For those looking for a different kind of sport, there are over 18km of double track for both classic and skate skiing. There are also beautiful winterscapes you can discover simply by strapping on a pair of snowshoes and going for a hike in this winter wonderland.

White Pass' off the beaten path location means that dining options are sparse. Most of your choices are located within the various lodging options in the area, where you can generally find a roaring fireplace and a bite to eat. There are a couple of places to stay slope-side where children under the age of six get to stay free, adding to the resort's family atmosphere. Alternatively, just 50 miles or so away in the town of Yakima there are an additional selection of lodging options, ranging from B&B's to lodges and inns.
