Next time you find yourself in Seattle, make sure you stop by the Museum of History and Industry. Since opening in 1952, the museum has been dedicated to the history of Seattle and the Puget Sound area. The Washington State Museum of History and Industry boasts a collection of over a million photographs, all relevant to the history of the region, and the Rainer Brewing Company's old big red letter "R," from their brewing house. You can also find other relics of Washington State commercial history, such as the Lincoln Towing Company's original "Pink Toe" Tow Truck, and Al Young's 1970 Dodge Challenger RT drag racing car.
The real highlight of the museum, especially for historians, is its collection of oral histories from prominent Washingtonians, where you can really learn about the State. Al Young sat for an interview, and so did Bill Gates! There is definitely a lot to learn here.
Mark your calendars: on the first Thursday of the month the museum is free and stays open until 8pm! The Museum of History and Industry is located in Seattle, at McCurdy Park, 2700 24th Avenue East.
