Explore and be entertained by characters from Washington's past! See interactive exhibits, theatrical storytelling, high-tech displays and dramatic artifacts at the Washington State History Museum!

The 106,000 square foot museum boasts soaring spaces and dramatic archways that invite visitors into an historical experience filled with colors, textures, sights, and sounds. Enjoy exciting exhibits such as the History Lab Learning Center, which boasts the Tools of the History Trade such as artifacts, books & periodicals, people and maps and inspires visitors to think like detectives and search for evidence. The Great Hall of Washington History takes visitors back in time through local history to meet William Clark, ride in a covered wagon, and explore a coal mine. If you like, take a video trip down the Columbia in the three-screen Columbia River Theater or use an interactive computer to learn Native languages.

Everyone will love asking Jasper a question in Walla Walla's Schwabacher General Store or taking a walk through a traditional Southern Coast Salish plank house and listening in on a conversation with a basket maker and her granddaughter. And Railroad buffs, there's even a model Railroad where kids can don a conductor's cap and climb aboard!

Should you get hungry while here, there's a small café to take a snack break and ponder the rich history of Washington State. To get here, Metro and Sound Transit buses stop at the Tacoma Dome Station, which connects with downtown Tacoma via Tacoma Link, Sound Transit's free light-rail system.
