Feel the excitement of the Gold Rush, right here in the Queen City of the Pacific Northwest! Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park preserves the story of the 1897-1898 stampede to the Yukon gold fields and offers a glimpse of the stories of adventure and hardship.
Klondike Gold Rush Seattle Unit National Historical Park tells the story of a people who after years of struggling through an economic depression, became intrigued by the possibility of riches. The passion of would-be miners heading for the Klondike goldfields in the 1890s helped turn Seattle into a prosperous city, and when they "struck it rich up north," they headed back to Seattle and unloaded their gold, making Seattle earn its name as the Queen City. Visitors can explore Gold Rush history using the interactive exhibits which highlight Seattle's role in this international event, as well as use touch screen computers which allow visitors to experience the gold rush through the eyes of the actual stampeders, using real journals and personal accounts. There are always special programs and films being shown, and best of all, admission is free!
Assess to the Park is easy from I-5 in Seattle. Exit at James Street, go west and make a left on Fifth Avenue and a right on Jackson Street. Make sure you stop by the visitor center, located on the northwest corner of Jackson Street and Second Avenue. Rush to one of the historic Gold Rush sites to learn about the exciting trials and tribulations that came along with settling the great west and the pursuit of wealth
