Originally built as an army installation for the protection of Puget Sound, Fort Warden boasts 2.1 miles of beaches and high bluffs amidst the ubiquitous and majestic Olympic Mountains. Nature lovers will be delighted by the wildlife, including bobcats, weasels and otters, as well as the opportunity to expand their knowledge at the Port Townshend Marine Science Center, which includes a natural history museum, a hands-on tide pool exhibit and educational programs on ecosystems. This park has countless opportunities for recreation, including activities revolving around the huge three-acre lake. The most unusual feature here is probably the conference center, ideal for retreats and reunions.
