Things to do / Travel Guide

Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame

If you're looking to see something that's really off the beaten path in the northwest Washington and Cascades region, pay a visit to the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. Located at the base of the Seattle Space Needle, there are several different sections of the museum including Homeworld, Brave New Worlds, Fantastic Voyages, and a section simply called “Them!” Some of the “artifacts” on display include the B9 robot from “Lost in Space” as well as Captain Kirk's command chair from “Star Trek.” This attraction is truly out-of-this-world!

Issaquah Salmon Hatchery

Due to over-fishing, a concerted effort to keep the salmon population alive and growing is being made at the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery. At the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, salmon eggs are retrieved from females and fertilized with milt from the males. Once they hatch, they are released into the Issaquah Creek where they swim up to Lake Sammamish, the Sammamish River, Lake Washington, Lake Union, the Lake Washington Ship Canal, Puget Sound, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and finally the Pacific Ocean. Adult salmon start the long journey back toward the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery in late fall, when the life cycle begins anew. Traditionally, the annual goal for the salmon hatchery has been to raise 2,000 adult chinook salmon and 3,000 adult coho salmon.
