Things to do / Travel Guide
Northwest Washington and the Cascades is a great vacation region for families traveling with children. A valued feature of the region is that many attractions offer “family admission fees,” which are usually cheaper than individual ticket prices. At many hotels and motels, children can stay for free with parents in the same room. On the food front, often, when dining in your hotel's restaurant, you won't have to pay extra for the kids, as hotels often foot the bill!
In Seattle, there are plenty of places to take your kids for a good time, including the Seattle Children's Museum, the Woodland Park Zoo, the Seattle Aquarium, the Pacific Science Center, the Museum of Flight and, of course, the ever popular Seattle Space Needle. Many of the kid-friendly attractions are centered around the Seattle Center, which, given its easy access to other areas of Seattle, makes it a good base area for families. The older generation may recall the 1962 World's Fair held here and the Jetsons-like future it portrayed happening in the 21st century.
Older children, their parents, and grandparents with appreciation for rock and roll will enjoy the Experience Music Project. Possibly the world's largest collection of rock memorabilia from Jimi Hendrix to Nirvana, the exhibition also includes collectables from the B-52's wigs to a vintage Fender and lots more.
Outside of Seattle, in Everett, adults and kids alike will get a kick out of touring the Boeing factory.
