Seattle-Tacoma Botanical Gardens
Located just one mile north of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden. The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden covers over 10½ acres of trails through woodlands and display gardens, including the Seike Japanese Garden, “Elda Behm's Paradise Garden,” as well as iris gardens and rose gardens. The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden is open daily from 7 a.m. until sunset, and admission is free.
In Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, there are several beautifully maintained gardens, such as a Japanese Garden, a rhododendron garden, a rose garden, an iris garden, a Dahlia trial garden, and a northwest native garden. This park is open to the public for free.
Botanical Gardens in Everett
In Everett there is the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens, located at the southern edge of Legion Park on the corner of Marine View Drive and Alverson Street. Admission to the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens is free and the gardens are open daily. In addition to offering great views of the Puget Sound, the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens boasts a Dahlia garden, a Japanese maple grove, a conifer garden, a small urban tree walk, and a woodland garden filled with Exbury azaleas. Other types of plants that grow in this wondrous garden are hyssop, dwarf water lilies, hydrangeas, and japonica.
Botanical Gardens in Federal Way
The Rhododendron Species Foundation and Botanical Gardens, located just south of Seattle in Federal Way, is a 22-acre woodland filled with over 10,000 rhododendrons and native conifer trees. Park experts explain that the “flowering season” usually starts in early January and sometimes runs as long as until May. The gardens are open every day except Friday during the summer and admission is free.
Botanical Gardens in Bellevue
The Bellevue Botanical Gardens are owned and maintained by the city of Bellevue. The Bellevue Botanical Gardens consist of over 30 acres of wetlands, woodlands, meadows, and display gardens. Some highlights include the Yao Japanese Garden, the Alpine Rock Garden, and the Waterwise Garden. The Bellevue Botanical Gardens are open every day from dawn to dusk and entrance is free.
Botanical Gardens in Olympia
Located on the city's State Capital Campus is the Capitol Conservatory. In the conservatory sits a large display of tropical and subtropical plants, as well as the official Washington State gardens, where the state flower, the coast rhododendron, is grown. The Capitol Conservatory is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and admission is free.
