Mountain Climbing in Northwest Washington and the Cascades
Roughly 10,000 people a year attempt to climb up Mt. Rainier but only about 5,000 actually make it to the top. Nevertheless, the 14,410-foot-high Mt. Rainier is the center for mountain climbing in northwest Washington and the Cascades. Notably, mountain climbing experts recommend that you be in good physical condition and a “competent alpine climber” before attempting to climb Mt. Rainier. Other popularly-scaled peaks in the region include Mt. Adams, Mt. Baker, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Olympus.
