This self-contained mountain village resort lives up to its name: Solitude Mountain offers guests slopes and lifts without the crowds, loyal service, pampering services and, yes, solitude. This small, cozy, family-owned resort is nestled away in Big Cottonwood Canyon away from the buzz of other big time Canyon resorts, Alta and Snowbird. It feels like a tiny European, old style mountain village, but has modern amenities and a newly built lodge, giving it the cushiness most desire in the ideal winter getaway. Since a lift ticket at Solitude is good at neighboring Brighton Resort, there is plenty of terrain to choose from, despite Solitude's small size.
Solitude Mountain Resort has over 64 runs and three bowls, with plenty of wide-open powder bowls, gladded tree runs, steep chutes and gentle cruisers. Honeycomb Canyon offers lift-served backcountry in-bound trails, tree runs and steep, powder-filled chutes. Honeycomb trail is actually the longest run at 3.5 miles and is great for experts. The double-diamonds along the Summit or Powderhorn chair are short and thrilling runs through trees. For intermediate skiers and riders, Sunrise and Apex chairs are recommended. For those on the higher level of intermediate, Powderhorn and Eagle Express chairs have excellent blue and black runs (but no green). Beginners should start off on the very flat Easy Street Run, before moving up to Little Dollie, Pokey Pine or Same Street trails. The terrain park is designed to be very family friendly and safe, with snow-based (no steel structured) features including a 15' funbox, two small to medium sized table tops, two small hips and two different sets of rollers.
