For many serious skiers, Alta Resort is a Mecca for the sport of skiing. Why? Tons of snow, challenging trails and runs absolutely free from snowboarders. In fact, snowboarders simply aren't allowed. Skiers rejoice at having the slopes for themselves at a resort rated in the top ten least crowded ski-mountains in America. Deep powder snow, rugged terrain and some of the most challenging skiing in America are the resort's world renowned characteristics. Alta is quite affordable compared to some of its high-end neighbors, but this also means some older lifts and plenty of ungroomed terrain. That is just a bonus though for those skiers that flock to Alta's slopes - they love the sparse crowds, deep powder and old-time feel that Alta exudes.
In terms of terrain, there is certainly something for everyone at Alta, including many wide, groomed trails. It's the serious skiers and experts who will be particularly pleased with the conditions. In addition to the 54 mapped trails, there is plenty of chute skiing to be found -- so keep your eyes open on the lift for fresh snow that you can break in. When buying a ticket, there is the option to get an Alta-Snowbird pass. With this ticket you can ride a high-speed quad that brings you to neighboring Snowbird ski-mountain.
