With 3 major geographic areas and clear, snow-fed streams which tumble down canyons of the rugged mountains, the Wasatch-Cache National Forest is rich in scenic beauty and natural resources. The Great Western Trail, which runs from Canada to Mexico, provides great recreational opportunities and Mirror Lake and Logan Canyon scenic roads are great for auto tours. In the winter, visitors can enjoy many world famous ski resorts, which are flowing with fluffy, dry powder which falls for nearly five months a year, and in the summer, take advantage of great trail systems for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking, as well as for all-terrain and off-road vehicles. Boating and swimming are popular too, and for those who like to fish, the trout are a-plenty here. There are also more than 300 sport-climbing routes in Logan Canyon to enjoy and if you want to extend your stay and camp out under the stars, you can choose from over 110 campgrounds and picnic areas available. Animal lovers should keep on the lookout for wildlife; this is the domain of elk, eagles, and bighorn sheep.
The Wasatch-Cache National Forest, with headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, encompasses 1.2 million acres of mountain lands in northern Utah and southwestern Wyoming. I-80 runs through the middle of the forest and I-15 runs along the west end.
