Uinta National Forest is brimming with natural diversity and boasts landscapes that range from high western desert to towering mountain peaks, such as Mount Nebo, the highest peak in the Wasatch Range. There are 500 miles of trails which crisscross the Forest, including the Great Western Trail, that offer great recreational opportunities such as berry-picking and pine nut gathering for the whole family.
Outdoor folk will enjoy birding, fishing and snowmobiling and if you prefer winter sports, there's a downhill ski area located partially on the National Forest as well as several cross-country ski trails. Nature lovers will enjoy looking for the elk, black bear, cougar, moose, Rocky Mountain goat and sheep, and mule deer that inhabit Uinta National Forest, and everyone will enjoy the Cascade Springs Interpretive Site which boasts large cascading springs in a series of limestone terraces and pools. Don't miss the Nebo Scenic Loop Highway, a photographer's dream, with 32 paved miles of rugged mountain beauty and several magnificent overlooks of the surrounding valleys. And fishermen will be glad to know that the Strawberry Reservoir Recreation Area is one of Utah's premier fishing reservoirs, recently enlarged to 17,160 acres. So pack your things and head over to Uinta National Forest!
