Our Museum Expert Says:

The Museum of Western Heritage is a fascinating display of how the early settlers of the area really lived, featuring important artifacts and relics from that age. The museum also takes care to focus on the life and history of the local Fremont and Ute Indians.

At the museum you can learn all about the real "Wild West" with an authentic blacksmith display, and exhibits on western barbershops, country store, and Gilsonite exhibit. The kids might enjoy seeing how their great great grandparents went to school, in the one room schoolhouse display. There is also a fine display of ladies fashion from the turn of the century, as well as fascinating collections of old rifles, saddles, tack and leather, and plenty of other interesting artifacts from back then.

Make sure to check out the picture gallery before you leave, where you'll find exhibits on Uintah County Sheriffs, 1880 to present day, and "Women of Courage," from the end of the 19th century. On your way out there is a fun exhibit on horse-drawn equipment that was essential to settling the West – so check it out!

Admission is free, with a donation box at the entrance. The Western Heritage Museum is located at 328 East 200 South, Vernal, Utah.
