Zoos and Aquariums in Salt Lake City, Utah

Things to do / Travel Guide

Salt Lake City Zoos

Northern Utah is centered around Salt Lake City, and it is there that you'll find two of the three zoos featured in this region. The zoos have each taken great care in creating healthy and comfortable environments for the animals, many of them which are not native to the Utah desert climate.

Hogle Zoo is a great zoo that is home to more than 250 species and 1,100 animals. Exotic plants and birds live in the complex's solarium. You can also see a Ball python, a Collared lizard, a Lilac-breasted Roller, and a Red panda.

You'll need a few hours to see all the beautiful birds in the Tracy Aviary.
One exhibit is a free flight aviary built in an “abandoned” homestead on the pampas of Argentina. Free-flying bird shows are presented during the summer months.

Utah Zoos

Finally, near the northern border of the state, in Logan, you'll find the Willow Park Zoo. Over 100 species of birds and 12 species of mammals inhabit the place, and visitors can see bald eagles, hawks, raccoons, wallabies, elk, and coyotes, among many other types of animals. Keep your ears peeled and you'll likely hear coyotes howling and bull elk bugling.

Utah Aquarium in Salt Lake City

Utah's Living Planet Aquarium is a great starting out place to explore the underwater habitat of the great State of Utah. Children and adults alike will enjoy exhibits on Utah animal life, ocean life in general, and South American marine life, with a strong emphasis on endangered and threatened species. Children always seem to gravitate to the colorful coral community, the sunken ship, and the shark tank, and the South American rainforest is particularly fun. Coming soon and sure to create a buzz: The South American Penguin Encounter!
