Art Galleries in Northern Utah
If you are less interested in the art of shopping and more interested in shopping for art, design your day around appreciating (and acquiring) northern Utah's creative talent. You can find blown glass, designer jewelry, Southwestern- and Native American-themed pieces, bronze and wood sculptures, and landscape paintings of the local mountains and skylines you'll likely recognize. On Salt Lake City's South Street you'll find a magnificent assortment of galleries, from upscale and established art sellers to the new, as-yet-unheralded artists' shops. Provo's arts affairs center around Center Street, and when in Park City or Heber City, be sure to carve out some time for the local gallery scene - on Main Street in both towns you will find galleries showcasing local and regional talent.
Farmers' Markets and Fruit Stands in Northern Utah
Northern Utah won't make you work too hard to get a good harvest. Fresh produce stands and markets bearing the region's best pick are generally open from June-October. You will find weekend farmers' markets in Bountiful, Lehi, and Logan. Salt Lake City's Downtown Farmers' Market offers the fresh produce, pastries, breads, meat, jams, and garden plants, among other products, of over 50 Utah farmers. From the middle of July until the beginning of October Ogden's Historic 25th Street Farmers and Art Market on 25th Street features a wide array of locally-grown produce and more than 100 local artisans who sell handmade soaps, watercolors, birdhouses, and pottery, among other items. Also during the summer months, colorful fresh-from-the-orchard produce stands line U.S. Highway 89 between Willard and Brigham City.
Specialty Shopping Areas in Northern Utah
Looking for something special? Northern Utah's specialty shopping areas offer plenty of unique souvenirs. In Salt Lake City try Trolley Square, a restored redbrick structure that once garaged trolleys and trains, where more than 50 boutiques and specialty stores await you. South Street, East Street, and West Street offer everything from rare antique glassware to used books, jewelry and furniture shops, and knickknack collectibles. While you are in the area, head to The Gateway, a European-style shopping and dining area with narrow streets and wide sidewalks, you will find a nice array of shops along North Street and West Street. And for Mormon crafts including quilts, porcelain dolls, and wooden objects, among other handmade items, try the area around West South Temple.
