Things to do / Travel Guide
The northern Utah region covers much of the northern portion of Utah east of, and including, the Great Salt Lake. The main population centers from Brigham City, near the Utah-Idaho border, south through Ogden and Salt Lake City to Provo, lie on the western flank of the Wasatch Mountain Range. The mountainous area of northern Utah, stretching east to the Green River is included in the region, as is the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, near where the borders of Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado meet.
Mountain-wise, the region is defined by the Wasatch Mountain Range (running north to south, and considered to be at the edge of the Rocky Mountains) and the Uinta Mountains (also a sub-range of the Rockies, running east to west). Water-wise, the eastern part of the region is in the Colorado River watershed, with the Green River being its principal tributary. In the west, all waterways eventually leads to the Great Salt Lake, an aquatic dead end.
