Frederic Remington (1861-1909) was a leading painter, sculpture and illustrator depicting the American Midwest. The Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg, New York, has by far the most comprehensive collection of original Remington paintings, sketches and sculptures.
Since its founding in 1923, the Frederic Remington Art Museum has been dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting these stellar works. While Remington didn't actually live at the museum, he was a frequent visitor of the building on his many trips to Ogdensburg.
Remington's best-known sculptures and oil paintings are showcased in the Albert Priest Newell Gallery. In The Addie Priest Newell Gallery, visitors can view changing exhibits of his Canadian watercolors, sketches and illustrations. Also displayed at the museum are personal possessions, studio equipment and memorabilia. You will find photographs, pages of notes, sketchbooks and even the cigars which were in Remington's pocket before he passed away.
The museum shop sells art supplies, prints, books, cards, children's items and bronze reproductions. While there are no restaurants or cafes at the museum, there are quite a few to choose from in the vicinity of the museum.
To get to the Frederic Remington Art Museum, enter Ogdensburg on Route 37. You'll see a sign on your left at the Junction at Route 68. Head west until State St., then make a left and you'll see the white brick museum on your right side.
