Visit the site of the first significant American military victory during the American Revolution! Saratoga National Historical Park is the site where Americans forced a major British army to surrender, the turning point in the American Revolution and a significant piece of American history!
It was here in Saratoga in 1777 that American troops defeated the British army and forced its surrender, prompting France to recognize American independence and sign on as an ally. Today, Saratoga National Historical Park comprises the 4 square mile Battlefield in Stillwater, the General Philip Schuyler House eight miles north in Schuylerville, and the Saratoga Monument in the nearby village of Victory. Visitors can take the 9½ mile battlefield tour which brings guests through prominent battle sites and explores the defensive and offensive positions of the British and American armies. There are ten stops along the way that provide information about the areas as you pass through them. Lovers of the great outdoors will enjoy the 4 mile Wilkinson Trail, great for hiking and cross-country skiing, and everyone will love the Living History demonstrations presented at Saratoga national Historical Park in the summer months. Visitors here can also see the 155 foot memorial that marks the surrender of British general, John Burgoyne, and visit the Schuyler House, the former residence of General Philip Schuyler, which was burned by the British, and reconstructed after the American victory.
Saratoga National Historical Park is located 40 miles north of Albany, New York, and about 15 miles southeast of Saratoga Springs. From Albany take I-87 to exit 12. Make a right at the end of the exit ramp onto Route 67 eastbound. Stay on Route 67 through the traffic circle (a right) and then at the next traffic circle, get in your left lane and exit to US Route 9 northbound. Then make a left onto Route 9P and then about 4.5 miles later, a right onto Route 423, and 5.5 miles later, a left onto Route 32. The entrance for to Saratoga National Historical Park will be on your right. You'll see plenty of sign along the way for guidance.
