Expert White Water Rafting Review

Shoot the whitewater rapids of the Pilar section of the Rio Grande and challenge the 5 miles of Class I-III rapids. This section, Lower Gorge, passes through Rio Grande State Park and is located in northern New Mexico, Between Taos and Espanola.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from April to July, with whitewater rafting trips that can be completed in a half day. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and oar rafts. Portage may be required.

Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips. Outfitters on the Pilar section of the Rio Grande offer trips suitable for families.
