Our Ski Specialist Says:

When skiers and snowboarders dream of high summits, tons of acreage and a long season of riding, Ski Sante Fe is just the kind of place they have in mind. With a summit rising 12,075 feet into the crisp winter air, and 660 acres to play and explore, Ski Sante Fe offers riders the chance to plunge into deep powder and come up for air only when their legs burn at the end of the day.

Located sixteen miles from Sante Fe, New Mexico, in the Sante Fe National Park, Ski Sante Fe is part of the gorgeous Sange de Christo Mountain range. Its killer views of Arizona and Colorado would make the trip worth taking on account of the scenery alone. Add in the skiing adventure and this is too good an opportunity to pass up

Seven chairlifts service sixty-seven trails here, ranging from beginner slopes all the way up to double black diamond slopes for the most expert thrill seeking riders. Warm up with a ride down "Easy Street," then rush down the beautiful "Tequila Sunrise" while hitting the moguls on "Northbum" and then try to catch your breath in the "Chilies Glade" which features all natural terrain just waiting to be tapped. Ski Sante Fe's longest trail measures 3 miles, descending in a nice meandering track down the mountain. Groomed every night, riders will find glades, tree runs, moguls, bowls, and basins all ready and waiting for them.

Snowboarders claim "The Bone Yard" as their own freestyle friendly park. It features funboxes, rails, jumps, wall rides, and a halfpipe. Boarders are welcome to ride all the slopes at Sante Fe, though leashes are required.

Standard and Demo equipment is on hand at the rental shop. However, be prepared to plunk down around $350 for a deposit on all demo and snowboard equipment. Lessons are available for all levels and ages, including an adaptive skier center for those with disabilities of various types. Kids can join the "Chipmunk Corner" for an educational and guided supervision on the slopes, or can spend their time in the fully licensed daycare on site.

Parking can be a bit of a hassle, so it's best to get to Ski Sante Fe early and make the most of the powder that fell the night before. As this resort is located close to town, it can get very busy with locals on the weekends. Ski Sante Fe is attempting to alleviate this problem, however, with a new triple person capacity chairlift that helps with crowd control by reducing the time spent on the lift line while maximizing the time on the slopes instead.

Lift passes are sold in full, half day, and multi-day increments for adults, teens, children, and senior prices. Children up to 46 inches tall in ski boots and seniors over the age of 72 get to ski or ride free.

Sante Fe as a town has a thriving nightlife with cantinas, bars, dancing, and a healthy choice of lodging options. Ski and stay packages are available at certain lodging facilities. Various lodgings may be found in the area, including hotels, motels, resorts, and bed and breakfasts. There are also campgrounds with RV hookups available. Feeling hungry? Foods from all over the world are available locally. Choose from Asian, Greek, or Italian just to name a few. Naturally, the locale demands an availability of southwestern cuisine, and of course there's always the fast food opyions with plenty of pizza and hamburger joints available to make sure you're never left hungry.

Spanish architecture, adobe brown colors, and the crystal blue skies that blanket the area with snow make Sante Fe an ideal place to spend your next winter vacation.
