Factory Tour in New Mexico
The factory tour offered in the northern New Mexico and southern Colorado region reflects its Native American cultural history and reputation as a refuge for artistic souls. Visitors to the region are invited to take a factory tour of Shidoni (a Navajo word used to greet a friend), a bronze art foundry, sculpture garden, and gallery. Located just north of Santa Fe, along the Rio Tesuque, at the factory you can learn about how bronze is sculpted as you watch the 2000º F molten metal being poured into ceramic shells and being molded into different shapes. Call in advance for scheduled pouring times.
Behind-the-scenes and factory tours are typically family-friendly activities good for a short and interesting diversion from a region's mainstream tourist activities. Generally inexpensive, note that some tours have irregular hours and admission restrictions. Click on the factory tour icon for more practical information.
