If your idea of a good time is a nice meal at a fancy restaurant with a top-shelf margarita followed by a visit to some local bars, or a nice stroll downtown, you'll have a good time after dark in northern New Mexico. New Mexico's diverse cultural heritage has created a music and arts scene as rich as its varied landscapes. Native American and Hispanic art and music, in particular, are very popular in the area. Local events, highlighting the cultural depth of the state, happen frequently. Your best bet is to get a copy of the weekly “Albuquerque Journal”or the monthly “On the Scene” to get up to date with artistic and cultural events happening in and around Albuquerque.

Situated on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, The New Mexico Ballet Company performs two large productions annually, often featuring talented guest artists. A tradition in Albuquerque for 25 years, the ballet is a favorite with visitors and residents alike.

All types of rock music by local acts can be seen nearly every night of the week in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, while national touring acts come through regularly. Also, both cities have a long legacy of producing and being home to musicians. Randy Travis, one of country music's most enduring superstars, has called Santa Fe home for years. Even the legendary Bo Diddley himself made Albuquerque his home for a long time, and is considered locally as an honorary New Mexican.

The liveliest nightlife in northern New Mexico can be found in the downtown district of Albuquerque. On the weekends, especially when the nearby University of New Mexico is in session, the clubs and bars in the extensive downtown bar district are filled with revelers.
