Red Lodge, Montana, is a great destination for adventurous tourists looking for a great place for outdoor recreation and cozy accommodations. You can bring the whole family to Red Lodge, where there is plenty of space to camp, enjoy the scenery, and experience the beauty of North America from its great heights.

Red Lodge is a great place for outdoor activities, especially snow sports. For some great skiing, bring your skis or plan to pick up rentals at the Red Lodge Nordic Center, which also provides ski lessons and 15 kilometers of ski trails for skiers of all levels. Serious skiers can see what's happening at the Silver Run Ski Foundation. For a full ski vacation, book a room at the Red Lodge Mountain Resort, and take advantage of their ski and snowboarding packages.

Other fun activities recommended in Red Lodge include biking, fishing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, and whitewater rafting. For a guided outdoors tour, contact OutWest Adventures, Zephyr Adventures, or Viking Air, which offers an above ground experience of Red Lodge. Alternatively, you can guide yourself along the Historic Walking Tour and the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway, great ways to experience the wondrous scenery of Red Lodge. Most of all, don't forget to take a scenic ride on the beautiful Beartooth Highway, which climbs to a height of 10,947 feet above sea level, where you will see a fantastic view of the majestic mountains and alpine lakes down below. Plan accordingly—the highway is only open during the summer and early fall. Visitors can also visit the Beartooth Nature Center, which is the only facility in Montana to house wild animals that cannot be returned to the wild, with over 70 animals and birds—a great option for the kids!

Some indoors activities include visits to local museums such as the Carbon County Historical Society & Museum, which displays a unique Greenough rodeo collection, extensive historical gun collection, an interactive coal mine exhibit and more. At the end of the day, check out the schedule at the Roman Theater, which features two shows per night.

Dining options in Red Lodge are plentiful and comfortable. At Bogart's you can try a mix of Montanan and Mexican foods with a margarita, at Bridge Creek you can order locally raised, all-natural beef and fresh seafood, and at Bear Creek Saloon & Steakhouse, you can enjoy charbroiled steaks. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening you can join in the fun at the famous Bear Creek Downs Pig Races. For a more casual dining atmosphere, try Café Regis, a community diner with a great breakfast selection. Families may also enjoy Foster & Logan's Pub and Grill, which is Red Lodge's only non-smoking sports bar, serving pub style food late at night. Also check out Montana Hanna's, which is an old-fashioned saloon with occasional seasonal events. For a sweet treat check out The City Bakery, with homemade pastries, and for coffee, try the Coffee Factory Roaster, with fresh roasted coffee and free internet access. (There is also free public internet access at the Red Lodge Carnegie Library).

Lodging in Red Lodge is plentiful. Vacation rentals that house large groups of people are most popular among tourists. Some recommended vacation rentals include A Creekside Development: Island at Rock Creek, with fully equipped townhouses very close to the center of town, or Absaroka Vacation Properties, with town homes located next to the Red Lodge Mountain Golf Course. For bigger groups, check out the Medicine Flower Lodge & Vacation Rentals, which can house up to 30 guests. For a shorter stay, book a cabin for an authentic Montana experience—try The Bear 'n Crescent Moon Cabin at the Beartooth Mountains, offering cozy rooms with large open decks, or try A Little Cabin in Red Lodge, which is an old-fashioned cabin from the 1880's. If you don't feel like doing the planning yourself, there are several agencies which will find the best accommodation to fit your needs and to save you some hassle, such as Central Reservations and Red Lodge Mountain Reservations. If you want to sleep outdoors there are many campsites with various facilities at various fees. Most are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
