Would you like to ski or snowboard at a resort for a week straight without ever needing to ski the same trail twice? The Northern Rockies are a prime destination for skiers and snowboarders every winter season and it's not hard to see why. With 300 plus inches of snowfall annually, Montana Snowbowl belongs at the top of any skiing itinerary. Actually two peaks with a saddle in between them, Montana Snowbowl's slopes, open from the end of November till April, make for a terrific season of carving and shredding.
This is pure skiing and snowboarding country – visitors won't find any snowtubing or fancy extras here. Thirty-two trails that range from easy rollers to steep chutes are spread out over 950 acres of lift accessible spots to wear the wax down on your equipment. Notably, there is also 500 acres of tree skiing for some extra powder to play in. Cruise down "Paradise" for a 3 mile leisurely run, and then take one of the four chairlifts right back up again. If you're coming with the kids, make sure to check out the "Lavelle Creek" family oriented area on the backside of the mountain. Snowboarders can make run after run in the terrain park with its varying layouts of rails and boxes designed to keep the energy flowing and adrenaline pumping.
Personalized or group lessons are available from Montana Snowbowl's professionally certified ski school. Pay particular attention to the women's and kids' programs of which Montana Snowbowl take great pride. There are also learn-to-ski or learn-to-snowboard packages available for first timers.
Lift passes may be purchased for full or half day sessions, and there are rates for all ages from children to senior rates. Rentals are available in packages or piece-meal style, with whatever you need to get onto the slopes available. Choose from the standard package or try out the performance sets. There are separate adult and child rates to make renting equipment affordable.
Gelandesprung Lodge is located onsite for guests to rest in the hotel style rooms that come in three configurations; a standard room with a shared bathroom, a deluxe room, which has a private bathroom, or a two room suite with a private bathroom. There is a restaurant located within the lodge that has a full service bar and serves delicious cuisine to order.
Missoula, Montana is located 20 minutes away from Montana Snowbowl resort. Ski and stay packages are available here, and lodging options span from Super 8 to a Hilton Inn. Most facilities offer HBO in all rooms, a continental breakfast, and either an indoor pool or hot tub to warm up your toes after a day on the slopes. As Missoula is home to the University of Montana, in essence this equates to a ton of eating and nightlife options. From the juicy burger to Mexican and slowly simmered BBQ, any tastes can be satisfied. From rowdy college bars to chill lounges, where you can grab a game of pool or listen to live local bands, Missoula is the local hub of après ski activities.
In short, Montana Snowbowl's trails last for days and riders will not leave disappointed - but they will leave tired!
From Montana Snowbowl Ski Resort - Missoula, Montana:
Snowbowl is big. You could ski or board here for a week from open to close and never take the same line twice. From top to bottom there's 2600 feet of continuous vertical, a lot of drop by any standard. Snowbowl is built on two peaks connected by a skiable saddle, so with two high capacity, double lifts, we can easily service the entire 950 acres while keeping lines to a minimum. An entirely different world opens up on the backside of Snowbowl. Created with families in mind, we call it The Lavelle Creek Area. Kids just call it "cool."
