Light and fluffy powder on top of the continental divide, with over 300 plus inches of annual snowfall, is what attracts visitors to Lost Trail Ski Area year after year throughout its December to April winter season. Normally the last resort in Montana to close for the season, guests at Lost Trail have access to over 1800 acres of skiable terrain, which is no small offering.

Located just 90 miles from Missoula, Montana, in the Bitterroot Mountains, over half of Lost Trail's forty-five trails are dedicated to intermediate skiers or snowboarders, with a nice even mix for the beginner and advanced riders to round out the pickings. All eight lifts serve a variable mix of terrain ability levels, so families or friends can ride up the same lift, do their thing, and end up at the same lift at the bottom. This helps make Lost Trail a very easy to navigate and family friendly resort. There is also a small rails park for the snowboarders in the crowd.

Guests must be at least seven years old to take ski lessons, and aged 9 and above for the snowboarding lessons given by qualified PSIA/AASI registered instructors. There are also learn to ski or snowboard packages, and separate ladies programming.

Children under five years of age and seniors over age seventy ski and ride for free at Lost Trail Ski Area. For full or half day tickets, both adult and junior prices are on sale at the main ticketing counter. A full service rental and repair/tune up shop is located on site which rents out equipment by the package or piece. Renters must leave either their car keys, identification, or credit card with the rental desk, which is returned when you turn in your lift ticket and rentals.

Lost Trail's day lodge offers fresh soups, salads, sandwiches, and healthy selections, such as yogurt and fruit, to hungry riders daily. They also serve regional micro-brewed beers to those persons over the age of 21. Offsite, in most lodgings, there are also full service restaurants and bars to make up for the lack of eating options slopeside. Missoula has an unbeatable choice of eating options, provided your stomach can wait the 90 mile trip!

Ski and stay packages are available in the local surrounding towns such as Big Hole which offers six different accommodations. Mainly cabins and rustic lodges pepper the half hour drive to Lost Trail Ski area, and they can be rented out daily or weekly. Missoula, of course, offers more national chain hotel/motel, inns, and numerous other options for those craving a more urban surroundings. Duck your head into one of the local watering holes for a relaxing drink, alcoholic or not, and see what regional beers are on tap while listening to home-grown bands playing covers and original music nightly.
