Where else can you ski in two states at once at the same time? Lookout Pass Ski area, located in Wallace, Idaho is situated on the Idaho and Montana border. Guests ride the chair lifts up on the Idaho side and ski or ride down fresh Montana powder slopes. The resort is open between the months of November and April. An average of over 400+ inches of natural snowfall make this ski area a absolute treat for anyone who ventures here in winter.

Open daily from Thursday to Monday, and on holidays, from 9am to 4pm, and operating on weekends between the hours of 8:30am to 4pm, guests glide down the 5,650 foot summit with an almost continuous vertical drop of 1150 feet. Thirty four named trails, two glades areas, and numerous opportunities for tree skiing are tucked away waiting to be explored. Over half of the trails are designed with intermediate skiers and riders in mind, but there is an even split between beginner terrain and advanced steeps for experts. There is also over 540 acres serviced by 4 chairlifts. Cross country skiers aren't neglected by any means, with 25km of tracks located within the ski boundaries.

"Exit Zero" and the "B-52" terrain parks keep snowboarders at bay, and the possession of the longest quarterpipe in the nation, stretching an incredible 1,111 feet, should tell you that Lookout Pass knows how to keep their riders busy. There are also a multitude of rails, boxes, mounds, and launches to grab the massive air snowboarders crave.

Lookout Pass has for the past 60 years run a free ski school for children from 6 to 17 years old. It is only run on Saturday mornings from January 12 to March 15, and requires registration at least 48 hours in advance through the ski school desk. Spaces, however, understandably fill up quickly, so it may be wise to do it even further in advance. Children must own or rent equipment as only the lesson is free. Lookout Pass also offers the standard learn to ski or snowboard lessons, as well as private or group arrangements. Women can check out the "Downhill Divas" program for women, run by PSIA certified ski instructors. The "Mini-Moose Club" for 3 to 6 year olds also offers a supervised fun way for kids to spend the day at Lookout Pass, with games and snow play. Reservations are required.

Deals abound for budget conscious guests. These include such perks as skiing or riding free on your birthday, college and military discounts, which require proper identification, packages for three "6-packs" of tickets, and "Boomers" discounts for those over age 40. There are also the standard adult, junior, and teen rates for full or half days (starting at 12:30pm). Children under six ski or ride for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Rentals have individual rates based on the same age brackets, and rentals by anyone under the age of 18, requires a parental or guardian signature. All rentals require a valid driver's license or equivalent to be left as a deposit. A full repair and tune up shop is located onsite.

Lookout Pass welcomes guests into their Loft Pub and Grub sports bar which serves various draft, microbrews, and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as quick bites to eat. Summithaus Café serves cafeteria style food daily from 10am to 3pm. Visitors may also head into nearby Wallace, Idaho, a town which is actually listed on the National Historic Register in its entirety! There are numerous restaurants here from pan-Asian to steakhouses to satisfy any palate. Nine different lodging options are available in Wallace including hotels, motels, B&Bs and private rentals. Alternatively, circling outside the town in a forty mile radius you'll find over fifteen additional lodging options, and other eating establishments, in the Silver Valley, home to fourteen communities. Coeur d'Alene is located just fifty-six miles from Lookout Pass Mountain and offers a virtual plethora of après ski activities, lodgings, and food to fill up on.

With so much natural snowfall it blankets the whole mountain in fresh powder, and hidden treasures waiting amongst the trees, Lookout Pass is the beginning of an adventure at the literal end of the road.
