Our Ski Specialist Says:

Blacktail Mountain is surrounded by the seemingly never ending National Forest. With almost unlimited visibility on most days, this mountain provides 360 degree views of the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park. Make sure to pack your binoculars and your sunglasses for your time here on the slopes.

Blacktail doesn't have the kind of terrain one would find at its nearby competitors, but it can claim 24 groomed and uncrowded runs for skiers of all levels, and four lifts to get them up the slopes. The majority of the trails here are categorized as beginner and intermediate trails, but there are also black diamond trails on the mountain. With its 200 acres covered by these trails and glades, and boasting a 1,500 foot vertical drop, it caters perfectly to its dedicated local clientele and is sought out as well by visitors from near and far.

Snowboarders, too, find their place at Blacktail Mountain. With a terrain park filled with tricks, including rails, boxes, table tops, and pyramid jumps, you're sure to catch some air here. Blacktail's season runs from December to mid-April, weather permitting, and the mountain is open between the hours of 9:30am and 4:30 pm from Wednesday to Sunday. Make sure to check out the mountain's discounts, including free skiing for fifth graders and discounts for college students.

With over 20 miles of groomed trails speckling the national forest land right at Blacktail Mountain's backdoor, folks needing a little break from the alpine skiing are sure to find one.

Blacktail Mountain has a three floor lodge with various dining options, including a full-service fine dining restaurant, a bar, and an affordable cafeteria. For a small-town feel, and a few additional dining choices, head over to nearby Lakeside. This once sleepy town now has a variety of restaurants from barbeque to Italian style cuisine.

There are no lodging options in the Blacktail Mountain neighborhood, but for those willing to drive a short while there are a fair amount of lodging options in the nearby communities of Lakeside, Kalispee, Bigfork, and Polson. It is important to note that, due to the lack of lodging options, reservations are imperative. Without them, you may end up bunking with your skis in the backseat of your car.
