Our Ski Specialist Says:

Voted both the #1 Midwest ski resort and the #1 terrain park by actual visitors in SKI Magazine reader's 2007 poll, Nubs Nob is an exceptional place to wear the wax down on the equipment this winter. Fifty-three trails from beginner to glade skiing, in addition to 20km of groomed and track set cross-country trails, are the reasoning behind this #1 popularity status.

246 acres of both groomed and ungroomed trails include beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain. Glades, tree runs, and off-piste areas are all accessible via the eight chairlifts, including three quad seating chairs. Open from 9am to 4:30pm and in January till 10pm, Nubs Nob season runs from November to mid-April, making this a skiing paradise for as long as the snow holds out.

Lead by a nationally qualified rider and park designer, Nubs Nob's terrain park and garden have as many or as few features as any snowboarder can handle. Serviced by a J-bar lift, there are banked turns, rails, step up jumps, a halfpipe, and the granddaddy superpipe which is groomed at least 4 times weekly to keep the edges sharp and packed to perfection.

Renting and buy a lift ticket just got easier at Nubs Nob. Here, guests can buy their lift pass right at the rental counter, saving valuable time lost by waiting in lines found at other resorts. Demo, standard, cross-country, snowblades, and snowshoes make up the arsenal at Nubs Nob, and riders under the age of 18 need a parental or guardian signature to sign out equipment. There is also a combo rental which allows guests to switch between skis and snowboards throughout the day. Lift tickets may be purchased in full or half day increments, as well as nightly weekend sessions. Children under the age of 8 and seniors over 70 ride or ski free. There are also separate early or late season passes, as well as the 4 hour freedom ticket and cross-country specific area passes.

Lessons are given in private or group settings for anywhere from 1 to 6 hours. Beginners' how-to clinics, park and pipe classes, snowblade, telemark, and Nordic specific sessions are also available from Nub's ski school. Children have their own program for ages 2 to 7 years old, and children who are in the 3rd grade and up are invited to join the regular group lessons. Nubs' Cubs Daycare is also onsite, featuring 12 play areas. It is staffed by state-certified pre-school teachers, making this a warm and caring environment for the little ones. Reservations are strongly recommended for Nubs' Cubs.

Nubs' Pub is a smoke-free, child friendly (during the week only, 21+ on weekends and holidays) area to grab a drink and relax while listening to the live entertainment that showcases on weekend nights. Homemade soups, sandwiches, and pizzas are served in the cafeteria, while brats and burgers are flipped and grilled in the Winter Garden. Tasty soups and sandwiches are also available in the Warming Shack, where they're served piping hot to keep cross-country riders filled up.

There is no lodging onsite, so guests should head into the nearby towns of Bay Harbor and Petoskey where ski and stay packages are offered. Bed and Breakfasts, private vacation homes, and franchised hotels and motels make up the bulk of lodging options. Bay Harbor offers an interesting mix of cuisines from all over the world, as well as American selections, so that noone should have a problem quelling any hunger pains. There are many lounges, bars, and saloons to tap toes to live music, throw darts, or rent pool tables.

Lake Michigan's cold weather makes for perfect snowy harmony at Nub's Nob. Fresh powder, amazing terrain, and a thumping nightlift, all make this a premier destination for winter time fun.
