Our Ski Specialist Says:

Every day is a snow day at Indianhead ski resort, located on the Western Upper Peninsula by Lake Superior. An annual snowfall of 210 inches per year blankets this resort's twenty-nine trails from Thanksgiving to April. The trails are of varying difficulties to suit any skill level. Also home to the largest NASTAR racing program in the mid-west, and offering only private lessons, Indianhead is dedicated to wintersports.

Open from 9am to 4pm every day, Indianhead's peak is 1,935 feet into the crystal blue skies and has 220 acres of groomed and granular snow on which to spread your wings. Nine chairlifts service the mixture of five beginner, ten intermediate and thirteen advanced slopes. Skiers and snowboarders can see how fast they can perform on the NASTAR course, and also watch the recreational ski and board team compete against the US Race Team which frequently practices at Indianhead Resort.

Boarders are invited to see what they can do in the "Timber Wolf" beginner progression park before they head over to take on "Big Chief" park. Indianhead Resort's half pipe meets the 300 feet long Olympic standard. Terrain features here include bumps, jumps, and spines with 15-17 degree angles.

All lessons at Indianhead Resort are private. There is the Kinder Kids program, taught by professionals trained especially to teach youngsters. There are also learn-to-ski and board programs and NASTAR clinics.

Rentals can be obtained for full or half day sessions, and are sold in complete packages or piece-meal style at both adult and children rates. Lift passes are sold at varying rates for all age groups from child to senior citizen, and children under 9 years old ski or ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. There are also college and military discounts available.

Especially designed with guests' children in mind, Indianhead Resort is proud of their Children's Center where, from ages 2 ½ to 8 years old, there is supervised fun and activities. Parents can choose whether to send their kids to a "play & ski" or a "just play" option for either a full or half day session.

When the slopes shut down, head into one of the three bars or three restaurants on site. The Sky Bar and Grill serves up tasty meals and a full service bar. Summit Cafeteria serves the standard quick-bites and hot or cold drinks. Red Dog and Dudley's Saloon's are on hand to serve up micro-brewed specialty beers, drink specials, and hot toddies to warm the stomach up. Lodging on site includes hotel rooms, chalets, and trailside condos. The availability of a pool, spa, health and recreation fitness center, fine dining, dancing, nightclub, and free wifi internet all contribute to making staying at Indianhead Resort a great option, whether just for a night or for a long weekend.

Offsite, Detroit, Michigan is a mere 620 miles away where there is an abundance of things to see and do no matter the hour. Record stores, bookshops, cafes, fine and casual dining no matter what the tastes call for, and bars aplenty can all be found in Detroit. For a smaller town atmosphere that is much closer to Indianhead Resort, visitors can make a side trip into Hurley, Wisconsin, which is only 14 miles away from the slopes. Here you'll find country cooking to fill you up and a cold drink to wash it down. Privately owned motels and lodging are available here for a fraction of the cost of lodging onsite at Indianhead.

Lake Superior provides the cold weather that is so conducive to snowfall and Indianhead visitors take advantage of what there is to offer. From families to the single rider, Indianhead is waiting to show guests that here, everyday is a snowy day.
