Our Ski Specialist Says:

Every day is a snow day at Indianhead ski resort, located on the Western upper peninsula by Lake Superior. An annual snowfall of 210 inches per year blankets this resort's twenty-nine trails of varying skill levels throughout its Thanksgiving to April season. Indianhead is home to the largest NASTAR racing program in the mid-west, and is a place dedicated to its winter sports.

Open from 9am to 4pm every day, Indianhead's peak reaches 1,935 feet into the crystal blue skies, and offers 220 acres of groomed and granular snow to spread your wings on. Nine chairlifts service the mixture of five beginner, ten intermediate and thirteen advanced slopes. Skiers and snowboarders have the opportunity to see how fast they can perform on the NASTAR course. They may also have the chance to watch the US Race Team, which frequently practices at Indianhead Resort, compete against the local recreational ski and board team.

Boarders are invited to see what they can achieve in the "Timber Wolf" beginner progression park before they head over to the more advanced "Big Chief" park. Indianhead Resort's half pipe meets the 300 foot long Olympic standards. The terrain park features include bumps, jumps, and spines with 15-17 degree angles.

All lessons here at Indianhead Resort are private. The resort does, however, offer the Kinder Kids program, which is taught by professionals trained especially in teaching youngsters. There are also learn-to-ski and board programs and NASTAR clinics.

Rentals can be obtained for full or half day sessions, and are sold in complete packages or piece-meal style for both adult and children rates. Lift passes are sold from child to senior citizen ages, and children 9 years old or younger ski or ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. There are also college and military discounts available.

Especially designed with their guests' children in mind, Indianhead Resort is proud of their Children's Center where, from ages 2 ½ to 8 years old, there is supervised fun and activities. Parents can choose from "play & ski" or "just play" options, for either a full or half day session.

When the slopes shut down, head into one of the three bars or three restaurants on site. The Sky Bar and Grill serves up tasty meals and a full service bar. Summit Cafeteria serves the standard quick-bites and hot or cold drinks. Red Dog and Dudley's Saloon's are on hand as well to serve up micro-brewed specialty beers, drink specials and hot toddies to warm up the stomach. Lodging onsite includes hotel rooms, chalets, and trailside condos. A pool, spa, sauce, health and recreation fitness center, fine dining, dancing nightclub, and free wifi internet are all offered here, making staying at Indianhead Resort a great option, whether just for the night or for a long weekend.

Offsite, Detroit, Michigan is just 620 miles away. There you can find an abundance of things to see and do at any hour. Record stores, bookshops, cafes, fine and casual dining, no matter what one's tastes call for, and bars aplenty can all be found in Detroit. For a smaller town atmosphere, that is much closer to Indianhead Resort, visitors can make a side trip into Hurley, Wisconsin, which is just 14 miles away from the slopes. Here, you'll find country cooking to fill you up and a cold drink to wash it down. Privately owned motels and other lodging are available here for a fraction of the cost of staying onsite at Indianhead.

Lake Superior provides the cold weather that is so conducive to snowfall, and Indianhead visitors take advantage of what there is to offer. From families to the single rider, Indianhead is waiting to show guests that here, truly, every day is a snow day.
