Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, so-called because of her beautiful multi-colored sandstone formations, stretches for more than 40 miles along the coast of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The scenic and rustic beauty of the park (America's first National Lakeshore) is enhanced by numerous natural archways and waterfalls including the spectacular Bridalveil Falls. The Au Sable Lighthouse, originally constructed in 1874, provides a fascinating look into the northern Michigan of long ago. Miners Castle, Munising Falls, logging history, and Twelvemile Beach all await your careful exploration.
Winter sports such as ice climbing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are common throughout the park as are boating, hunting, and even snorkeling among shipwrecks in the warmer months. Just remember, Lake Michigan is still chilly, even in August.

The park is a four season recreational destination where hiking, camping, hunting, nature study, and winter activities abound. At its widest point the Lakeshore is only five miles and hugs the Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles.
