Splash and frolic in one of hundreds of lakes and streams across 1 million acres of Michigan's glaciated Upper Peninsula at the Ottawa National Forest. Rich with wildlife viewing opportunities and breathtaking views of rolling hills dotted with lakes, rivers and spectacular waterfalls, the Ottawa National Forest is a natural paradise. This magnificent fortest is filled with popular hiking trails which provide access to Great Conglomerate, Gorge, Potawatomi, Sandstone, and Rainbow Falls. All ranging in length from 1/4 to 1-1/2 miles, the trails descend from the rim of Black River Gorge to awesome overlook points and five of the trails feature interpretive signs explaining the sights and sounds along the way for visitors to enjoy. There are over 500 named lakes at Ottawa national Forest, and nearly 2,000 miles of rivers and streams for fishing, canoeing and swimming. If you visit the area in the fall you'll witness the striking oranges, reds and yellows of Ottawa's yellow birches and sugar maples. In the summer, you won't have to look hard to catch a glimpse of the deer, fox, snowshoe hares, bald eagles, loons and bears who call the forest home.
With of all this plus beaches and 22 campgrounds, there's something for everyone to enjoy at Ottowa National Forest. From Ironwood, US highway 2 and US highway 63 provide primary access to the forest.
