Things to do / Travel Guide
The best time to visit northern Michigan is from June-August. In these months, it can get hot and humid at times, but refreshing breezes blow inland from the Great Lakes, which have retained their cool temperatures from the winter.
Northern Michigan suffers harsh winters with very cold temperatures, gusty winds, and frequent snowfalls. The Great Lakes cause an increase in the region's precipitation, winds, and cloudy weather. In spring, the Great Lakes have cooling effects that reduce the region's temperatures, cloudy weather, and thunderstorm frequency. Summers in northern Michigan are hot and sometimes humid. Lake breezes do act to lower the temperatures but may also bring in low clouds and fog over the land. In the fall the Great Lakes warm the air, as they remain warmer than the land. Their warming effects bring more fog, thunderstorms, hail, and precipitation in general to the region.
