Take a ride down a redwood highway! The Avenue of the Giants is a classic drive-thru getaway for everyone from tree huggers to lumberjacks.
The Avenue of the Giants is scenic, beautiful, and relaxing drive for visitors of all ages. Located in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, which has the largest remaining stand of virgin redwoods in the world, this world-famous drive is a 31-mile portion of old Highway 101. Visitors should take time to picnic, camp, hike, swim, fish, raft, or bike ride amongst the ancient redwoods. Enjoy short trail hikes such as Founder's Grove, Gould Grove, or the Burlington Beach trail. If you are lucky, you may see the local yellow-colored Banana slugs transforming forest litter into compost. Crafts lovers will adore the tiny towns which line the avenue - be sure to pick up a bottle of eau de redwood perfume, and resin-coated redwood clocks at the local shops. Roughly 200 miles north of San Francisco, the Avenue of the Giants parallels U.S. Highway 101 from Phillipsville to Pepperwood, so fill up the tank and head over to where the Giants are!
