See some of the world's tallest old-growth coast redwoods which can live to be 2000 years old and grow to over 300 feet tall! Stroll through spruce, hemlock, Douglas-fir, berry bushes, and sword ferns and enjoy 37 miles of pristine Pacific coastline!
At Redwood National and State Parks, nature lovers go wild for the massive giants, but that's not all! Visitors get up close and personal with Roosevelt elk grazing in the prairies and the endangered marbled murrelets who skip across the treetops as they fly from sea to mossy nest. There is plenty of great hiking here to enjoy or feel free to take the 10-mile scenic drive through the old-growth redwoods. There's also a half mile walk at Mill Creek through a river bottom grove of tremendous trees and Enderts Beach and Crescent Beach Overlook have awesome Ocean views, where you may even see a gray whale or two. Trillium Falls Trail covers two and a half miles through ancestral forest and has one of the few falls in the parks. And if that's not enough water for you, don't miss Fern Canyon with its 30-foot walls dripping wet and full of ferns! Be sure to stop at Kuchel Visitor Center one mile south of Orick, where there are tons of fantastic exhibits to enjoy. Redwood National and State Parks also offer four developed campgrounds, three in the redwood forest and one on the ocean, so there's no reason not to spend the night and take it all in!
To get here from the north or south, use U.S. Highway 101. From the northeast, use U.S. Highway 199. From 101: Access additional park sites via the Bald Hills Road, Davison Road, Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, Coastal Drive, Requa Road, and Enderts Beach Road (south to north). From 199, take South Fork Road to Howland Hill Road. Be prepared for an awe-inspiring experience, being enveloped by these mammoth, beautiful trees.
