Scuba Diving off the Coast of Sonoma and Mendocino in Northern California
The waters of the Northern California Coast offer excellent dining opportunities, many of which are sheltered dives, suited for less experienced scuba divers. Water entry and beach access is relatively easy and there are good facilities, especially in the state parks. MacKerricher State Park in Fort Bragg and Russian Gulch State Park, and its famous “blow hole” are recommended.
The rugged terrain of the Mendocino, Sonoma and Northern California coast is mirrored in the impressive underwater geography. Add to that impressive scenery a friendly group of seals, walls of abalone and thick kelp forests for a rewarding, if a bit chilly, scuba dive in Northern California.
Be aware of the danger in those kelp forests as well as the restrictions on taking abalone.
