Family Travel around the Sonoma and Mendocino Coast
A family vacation in the Northern California Coast is very different from a trip to San Francisco or points south. The focus is on nature, from the towering Redwoods to the deer, elk and majestic birds in the sky above. A beach visit will be very different than the usual frolic in the surf. Kids will enjoy exploring the tide pools, searching for driftwood and treasures from old shipwrecks and see nearby colonies of sea otters and sea lions. If your are fortunate enough to be there in the spring, you can focus on the family of California gray whales visible offshore as they head up to Alaska.
Travel with kids in Northern California is not without its challenges. Distances are large and towns are far apart. Familiar fast food restaurants and large shopping malls are almost non-existent and family travel around the Mendocino and Sonoma coast will expose kids to healthy and wholesome dining, unique stores and an appreciation of traveling a bit off the beaten path, while still enjoying the comforts of being in California.
