Factory Tours on the Northern California Coast

The northern California Coast region is well-known for the excellent opportunities it gives travelers to get out and experience nature. A series of parks that dot the region's coastline are the natural preserves for northern California's old-growth redwood forests. With timber in abundance, it's only appropriate that the region has two woodworking factories. At Blue Ox Millwork visitors can take a behind-the-scenes look at how the factory's woodworking machinery operates to craft usable and decorative items out of solid wood.
And at the Pacific Lumber Company Scotia Sawmill you can see how workable pieces of lumber are made out of the areas massive trees. Although you may prefer seeing these trees reaching for the skies in the area's forests, rest assured that the harvesting of the trees is done in a controlled manner.

Behind-the-scenes and factory tours are typically family-friendly activities good for a short and interesting diversion from a region's mainstream tourist activities. Generally inexpensive, note that some tours have irregular hours and admission restrictions. For instance, tours are only given from May-September at the Blue Ox.
