The Arizona Snowbowl's location, nestled into the San Francisco Mountains, provides skiers with some spectacular scenery as they cruise its slopes. With beautiful vistas, a panoramic view of once active volcanoes, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, it is often difficult to keep your eyes on the trail. But Snowbowl is a speed haven, so don't lose your concentration along with your breath when taking flight.
With 32 runs serviced by 5 lifts, and an impressive 2,300-foot vertical drop, the Arizona Snowbowl has a wide selection of trails, varying from beginner to advanced level. The Snowbowl is best known for the Hart's Prairie Beginner Area. This 50 acre area is served by three of its own lifts, and has a 650 foot drop, enabling beginners get into the right rhythm for developing confidence on the slopes. The rest of the mountain's slopes are divided between intermediate and advanced level trails.
For those who prefer a one board style of living, snowboarders are free to roam on all of the Arizona Snowbowl's slopes, assuming, of course, that they have a leash. For those looking to catch some air, grab your boards and head on over to the Sunset Terrain Park. Located on the "Sunset Boulevard," the park offers a wide variety of tricks, including boxes, rails, and various hits. Arizona Snowbowl is open daily from 9:00am to 4:00pm, so come on over and hit up the mountain early.
The outdoor adventures don't end at the mountain's base camp. The Snowbowl is located in the backyard of the Kachina Peaks Wilderness, where one can find some of the state's best cross country skiing, Skijoring, and snowshoeing. In addition to adrenaline sports, a wide variety of sightseeing is available. The Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Painted Desert and Petrified Forest are all available just a short drive away.
There are two restaurants on the mountain, but if you're looking for something with a little extra umpf, nearby Flagstaff has more than 40 bars and restaurants for your après-ski pleasure.
Located on the San Francisco Peaks in the Coconino National Forest, the Arizona Snowbowl is just minutes from Flagstaff and a mere two hours from Phoenix. There is limited lodging within walking distance of the slopes, with 255 cabins at the bottom of the mountain, but just 10 minutes away, in nearby Flagstaff, there are more than 4,000 rooms available for visitors.
