Our Nature Nut Says:

Wupatki National Monument preserves what was once one of the largest, and probably the most prominent Pueblo village of the southwest. People have inhabited the low, arid park region for at least 10,000 years but the stunning villages in northern Arizona were built less than 800 years ago. Visitors should plan to see the Wupatki Pueblo (the park's largest) and four other prehistoric pueblos. The Lomaki Pueblo Trail and the Doney Mountain Trail are both relatively easy and afford visitors sweeping views of the desert landscape.
Visitors cannot explore the wild backcountry on their own, but an excellent ranger-guided backpacking trip (for an additional cost) called Crack-in-the-Rock will lead adventurers on a secluded desert journey through rock art and pueblo architecture.
